ONIGIRI PAPA, a UAE-based restaurant inspired by Japanese street food, needed a brand identity that stood out in a crowded market. They wanted something modern and bold, but also playful enough to reflect the fun and approachable nature of their menu. A key request was a character logo that could become the face of the brand, instantly recognizable across menus, packaging, signage, and digital platforms.

COOKING UP A CHARACTER :

I designed a playful character logo that blends clean, minimal lines with a bold, modern aesthetic. The character captures the lighthearted, approachable feel of Japanese street food, while the overall design remains versatile and professional enough to scale across print and digital uses. The final identity strikes a balance between cultural authenticity and contemporary dining appeal.

Research & Inspiration – Gathering visual references from Japanese street food stalls, mascots, and restaurant branding.

  • Concept Development – Exploring different ways to translate “onigiri” into a recognizable character without losing simplicity.

  • Sketches & Iteration – Finding the right balance between playful charm and clean minimalism proved tricky, as too much detail made the logo less versatile.

  • Refinement – Narrowing down to a bold, minimal character that could stand on its own or pair seamlessly with typography.
