For LULUKAV, a Toronto artist with a gritty sound and rising profile, I created a logo and social visuals that amplify his bold, dark aesthetic.

THE REDESIGN
LUKAV felt that his original logo was too blocky and clean, lacking the edge needed to connect with his target audience. The goal was to evolve the brand identity into something authentically grungy and resonant.
I began by analyzing the client's inspiration to define a clear creative direction. After building a cohesive mood board, I moved into the sketching phase in Procreate, iterating on concepts that balanced raw, grungy textures with legibility. The final logo successfully captures the desired aesthetic, delivering a bold and impactful mark that truly represents the brand's core identity.



FROM IDENTITY TO APPLICATION :
The true test of a logo is its versatility in application. Following the successful rebrand, the new LUKAV identity was deployed across a suite of promotional materials for upcoming live events.
The distinctive, logo served as the anchor for each design, ensuring instant brand recognition. Each poster was treated as a unique piece of art while adhering to the brand's established grungy aesthetic, proving the logo's functionality and strengthening the band's visual presence across both digital and physical platforms.






CHALLENGE :
Every redesign comes with its own set of constraints. The primary challenge was balancing the client's desire for a raw, "grungy" aesthetic with the need for a functional, versatile mark. We had to avoid clichés and ensure the logo felt authentically textured, not just digitally distorted. A unique typographic challenge was the client's initial wish to 'correct' the backwards 'K' from his original logo. However, the letterforms in 'LUKAV' created an awkward spacing issue when the 'K' was flipped, preventing the condensed effect he loved. The solution was to keep the backwards 'K' as a nod to his established brand identity, ensuring recognition from his audience while integrating it into the new, grungy custom lettering. Furthermore, the final design needed to maintain legibility at small scales for social media while still making a powerful impact on large formats like posters, merchandise and of course the main stage. This process involved a few iteration in Procreate to craft a purposeful, hand-made feel that solved these core problems without compromising on usability.

My Role: Guided by client inspiration, I developed a mood board and hand-sketched numerous concepts in Procreate. This process allowed for the creation of a custom, textured logo that embodies a raw and impactful aesthetic.
Outcome: A distinctive new identity that captures the brand's core spirit and forges a stronger visual connection with its audience.
